SHOWS, CONCERTS, CONTESTS AND NEW RELEASES – JUNE 26, 2017 Print E-mail
Hi everyone!

It has been a while since I’ve written an article for my artist page on Facebook and www.trentbruner.com, but my musical life has continued to be busy as a composer, substitute piano teacher, substitute church organist, piano accompanist and choir conductor.

Spring concerts with choirs were the main activity in the Bergen area as I had three concerts and one wedding with the Tysnes Chamber Choir from March until June as their conductor. Two of the three concerts in March and April featured songs from Western Norway, while the third concert in May featured some of the choir’s favourite Norwegian songs and others from outside Norway. In June, this choir was also hired by one couple in the Tysnes area to sing for what others thought was a 50th birthday party. Although the part about the 50th birthday party was true, the birthday bride and her husband planned a surprise wedding for their guests as well. It was a delight for all of us to be able to be a part of a memorable double celebration.

The Bergen women’s choir, Damekoret Toneveld, celebrated their 70th anniversary season with a guest appearance with the Osterøy chamber string group “Kammergruppen Reppen” in Valestrand on Sunday March 12th, followed by their jubilee concert that took place in Bergen on Sunday, March 26th which was well attended. The program contained a sample of new and old songs that spanned the choir’s history, with Yours Truly as conductor, Svein Høgemo as piano accompanist, Anne Sofie Fluge Berg as guest vocalist, and former choir conductor Olaug Borge as both a guest conductor and master of ceremonies.

Since the beginning of 2017, I have been active as a substitute piano teacher for the Bergen Culture School until the end this month. After my summer schedule in Canada is finished, I will resume a temporary position as a piano teacher with the Bergen Culture School until Christmas 2017. The same also applies to calls that I received from the Norwegian Lutheran Church to be a substitute organist on the island of Osterøy, the City of Bergen and the Samnanger Municipality since the beginning of the calendar year. This will continue for as long as a need exists, and I am always glad to assist in The Lord’s service.

In the coming days, I will release a book of fiddle tunes that feature my own and shared compositions with other fiddlers that have been composed from past to present. One tune from a member of our own family will also be included in the book. The name of the book will be called “Some of Mine, Some of Ours – Volume 1.” This book will be available for sale in both PDF and print formats. Check my artist page on Facebook for the release date, which will be soon!

Speaking of music books, I have also been busy composing songs. From May 2016 to the present, I have now composed 32 country gospel songs largely inspired by Bible themes I’ve worked with for playing in church. Plans for at least one songbook are in progress, with more information to be shared in the coming weeks.

For my summer schedule back in Canada, I will have two performances with The Cleavers (Rodney Krip, Tyler Kushneryk and Yours Truly) in July, and in along with house accompaniment duties at the 20th annual John Arcand Fiddle Fest August 10-13th outside Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, playing as pianist for a Canada 150 concert in Sherwood Park, Alberta with Calvin Vollrath, April Verch, Daniel Gervais, and Neil Beaton on fiddles, along with Derek Stremel on guitar August 15th, house accompanying alongside Melika Lemelin for the 28th annual The Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Championship in Valleyfield, Quebec, and the Pembroke Fiddle and Step Dance Contest in Pembroke, Ontario with Guylaine Ganger accompanying alongside as well. More concerts will be added shortly to the concert calendars on Facebook and www.trentbruner.com on the Canadian side of the calendar, so check back regularly for updates.

I also had the honour in April to play piano on one tune for Emma March, an up and coming fiddler from Pembroke, Ontario. This was done thanks to the internet and a request from her album producer, Four time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Champion Louis Schryer to appear as accompanist on Graham Townsend’s “Swingin’ With The 80s.” I look forward to its eventual release.

An update will be coming shortly when the release of “Some of Mine, Some of Ours” takes place. Until next time, see you down the musical trail!

Musically Yours, Trent
