Spring Update Going into Summer 2008 Print E-mail

The spring edition of "Bruner's Brood" has come out a little later than first planned, so my apologies for not getting this out sooner.

The spring trip to Canada was a fine one for me and my family as we had a chance to visit my parents in Saskatchewan with our new baby girl, Ingrid Sofie. This was her first meeting of my Canadian family and she enjoyed her time immensely, as did the rest of the family over March and April.

Since then, I have been composing some more original music, with my latest piano composition, "Follow His Calling",  written last month for Hogne's church confirmation in May. This piece is now posted in the piano composition section of this site.

I will also be performing at a festival in the Haukeli region of Southern Norway, between Bergen and Oslo called Haukeliseterfestivalen. This is a unique festival in that the emphasis is on artists who have never met eachother before (or with very minimal contact) networking with each other and forming new music groups. This festival is open to the general public, with further information given at the following web address (in Norwegian):

http://www.haukeliseter.no/festival/

Because of the festival's emphasis on new music groups, I will be performing with Norwegian hardanger fiddler and vocalist Annika Westgård from Kragerø, Shetland Island fiddler Kevin Henderson (member of the Scottish folk music group "The Boys of the Lough"), and veteran Bergen musician Olav Tveitane (guitar, citern, bass). Our performace at Bergen's Colombi Egg Folk Music Club went well on Monday, April 28th. For that concert and for this festival, we have been given the name "North Atlantic", or in Norwegian, "Nordatlantisk", to describe our common geographic location, regardless of our home countries. I hope to have some photos and comments on this festival in an upcoming news article here on this web site.

In closing, it brings me great sadness to inform you that the second week of the SCES fiddle camp at Arlington Beach was cancelled last month due to low enrollment. However, there are still openings for week one, which is June 29-July 3rd. Further information can be found at www.sces.ca. I had been hired for the second week, but now since that week has been cancelled, I am open for other bookings if you are interested.

I'll close here for now, and wish everyone a great musical summer, whereever you are! Sign the guestbook and send an e-mail!

Musically Yours, Trent
